Tasty, Simple & Low Cost Recipes
Looking in your cupboards and shopping bags and feeling uninspired? You've come to the right place! Click the recipe ideas button and check out the recipes that can help you make something nutritious and delicious from those random goodies and the stuff at the back of the cupboard.

Here's where you'll find our latest inspiration for healthy cooking, based on the goodies from our Food Network in Warrington.
Whether you've picked up your groceries from The Bread and Butter Thing, The Little Shop, The Food Bank or Community Shop, we're going to start building up some recipes you can use, even when your selection might, at first, seem a little bit random!
I'm passionate about spreading the message that we can create a healthy, balanced meal from very little, and there are loads of ways to make it tasty and appealing to the whole family (even the fussy ones!).
You may need some little, low cost extras, but I'll try to make these easy to get hold of and low in cost: the kind of things you can keep in your cupboard that are really versatile and help you build a tasty, nutritious meal.

Here's what I've been up to get Warrington cooking!
January 2025
The journey begins...
Our first taster session ran Friday 31st January at lunchtime whilst folk were queuing to pick up their Bread-and-Butter Thing shopping from Westy Community Centre! You just need to register by text with The Bread-and-Butter Thing if you haven't shopped with them for affordable food before. Check out their website for further information

Whilst you were queueing today, I came up with a delicious, quick, healthy Chilli Con Carne that everyone raved about! The comments ranged from "best chilli I've ever tasted" to spectacular and amazing! Even people who avoid meat and tomatoes were so inspired by what people were saying that they had to try it, too... and they loved it!!
I'm going to share it with you on our Recipes Page. Enjoy your cooking!
February sees our taster sessions at Westy Community Centre, supported by the amazing volunteers at East Latchford Friends, continue and they have gone from strength to strength...
Our shoppers and volunteers have been so impressed by the recipes like egg foo yung (and our vegan egg-free foo yung!!), that I've had to cook batch after batch! Some more fantastic feedback and interest in the ingredients means we're absolutely inspiring folk to cook from scratch using the tasty, super-healthy herbs and spices I add.
Our Winter Warmer community meals have gone down a storm - the carrot, sweet potato and coriander soup has lovely, warming gingery vibes that feel so comforting and satisfying during these colder months. I'll be featuring that at all the Housing Association Winter Warmers and you can also find it here https://warringtonva.org.uk/recipes
March sees the new sessions starting at The Little Shop at Latchford - book on by clicking your preferred date(s) above to join us to learn how to cook quick, tasty, nutritious, family meals with your affordable food.
We made a delicious soup during our first session and we got so many attendees we managed to blow the fuse in our extension cable haha! We've resolved this technical hitch and our next session is venison stew - how fancy! I'll be showing you the alternatives you can use when you recreate the recipe at home.
I've added the events to our Facebook page to give you another way of booking on. We want to make it as easy as possible to access.
