WMWA Review Of The Sector

Thanks for expressing interest in being part of the Warrington Mental Wellbeing Alliance.  The next step is to help us build a picture of the VCS (Voluntary Community Sector) and begin understanding how this alliance could be most beneficial to everyone.

This is broken down into;

Knowledge of the sector – mapping provision

  • To help link/share services based on knowledge of what else is available.
  • Highlight gaps – see locality of provision
  • Increase awareness of services
  • Signpost
  • Develop services and provisions based on the need

Resources – support services/campaigns/initiatives

  • Evaluate local MH campaigns and services
  • Raise awareness of local support offers
  • Assess practical use and relevance of the information

Training & Knowledge

  • Review knowledge and skill set to meet local demand
  • Set benchmarks for the current level of MH awareness
  • Ensure safe and best practices for groups (EQIS)
  • Help build resilience within the third sector

Building an alliance

  • Creating a level playing field (in spite of group/org size)
  • Triangulate resources, info and services to avoid duplication and competitive fundraising
  • Understanding the benefits of collaborative working and co-design
  • Develop trust and communication

Building An Alliance

Many of you come with the knowledge of what has been tried and tested in the past. Community-led networks, forums and initiatives can be beneficial but time-consuming. In your experience, what has/hasn’t worked for you? It would be good to hear what you’ve learnt from these experiences and tell us how initiatives like a community-led network could be improved upon or strengthened.

For example, should it be led by lived experience? Focus on drawing down funding? Develop and promote quality standards? Provide a platform to share and network? A safe space to learn and understand how to engage people from different cultures and communities? The list could be endless and there are no right or wrong answers so please consider how you would get the most out of being part of an alliance and perhaps what you could bring to the table.
